About Us

Our Dental Team

Our nursing team plays a crucial role in our preventative strategy through offering oral hygiene instruction, advice and techniques. For many appointments they are the first point of treatment for patients as they carry out preparation such as disclosing before examination by the dentist. Where the patient is attending an emergency appointment, it is a member of our nursing team who will first speak to the patient about the nature of their problem.

Every member of our nursing team has a good understanding of the surgery as a whole, which is gained by rotating roles within the practice. Our staff undertake a wide range of duties including reception; ensuring patients are educated about oral health and working as chair side support to the dentist.

Ombersley Family Dental Practice is co-run by Andy’s husband Roy who manages the surgery, does the accounts, and uses his experience in software development and quality assurance to ensure the smooth running of the business’ systems. He organises patient direct debit schemes and provides additional support to the team on reception where needed. Roy ensures the smooth running of Ombersley and has been key in building our reputation for customer satisfaction beyond the dentist’s chair.

Our Dental Practice

We have recently benefitted from extensive modernisation to ensure the comfort and best function of our surgery, which includes a fully accessible W.C and a large customer car park. Our refit ensures that we can continue to provide the best in dental services, whenever you need a dentist in Ombersley near Worcester, Stourport on Severn or Droitwich.

Meet The Team

Andy Wright

I qualified from Edinburgh University Dental School in 1982. After completing a house officer position at Birmingham Dental School, I spent a year as the resident Senior House Officer in Oral Surgery at Worcester Royal Infirmary. Over the next 12 years I worked in dental practices at Catshill and Cadburys and also as a part time oral surgery clinical assistant at Worcester Royal Infirmary. In 1996 I set up Ombersley Family Dental Practice. I married Roy in 1986 and have a stepson, Stuart, a son, Marc and daughter, Sam. Outside work I play competitive squash, golf and enjoy swimming, gardening, walking and supporting Roy at historic car race meetings.

Roy Wright

Practice Manager

After a career developing computer systems, initially with Royal Worcester Porcelain and then with software development companies I set up my own consultancy. I pursued this for a number of years providing quality assurance management for several computer software companies and computer departments of large organisations, until it became obvious that Andy needed someone to handle the growing administrative effort required in running the Practice. It was pleasing to see how the disciplines that were used in satisfying business needs could be transferred into a dental practice environment.

I played squash for many years but shoulder operations have ended that outlet, fortunately I am still able to continue historic single-seater car racing.

Liz Hooper

Registered Dental Nurse

I started dental nursing in 1998 working at Ombersley Family Dental Practice. I qualified as a dental nurse in 2000. Since then I have qualified in dental radiography and in 2010 gained my Oral Health Educators Qualification I had a break from dental nursing in 2010 to have a baby so most of my spare time is spent looking after my daughter and my husband. I am still working at the practice but on a part-time basis.

Jodie Aston

Registered Dental Nurse

I have been working as a dental nurse since the age of 17 and qualified in May 2006 after completing an NVQ level 3 at the Charles Hastings Postgraduate Centre. I then gained my Dental Radiographer qualification in December 2008. I joined the team at Ombersley Family Dental Practice in July 2005 and thoroughly enjoy my time working here. I also hold my Oral Health Educators Qualification.

In my spare time I enjoy socializing and playing sports such as swimming and squash. I am a keen horse rider having my own horses and compete on a regular basis in show-jumping and cross-country events. I am a member of the Worcester Riding Club.

Sue Harrison

Registered Dental Nurse

I previously worked for Andy between 2001 and 2007, but left with the intention of emigrating to New Zealand, which sadly did not work out, so I continued dental nursing at other local practices. When I heard that there was a vacancy I jumped at the chance to apply and was lucky enough to be taken on again. Now that my children have grown up, my husband, Nic, and I can spend more time together. We enjoy holidays and walking the dog

Heather Wall

Registered Dental Nurse

Sue and I worked together at the same practice and when I saw the change in her upon coming to work for Andy I was persuaded to apply for a job, although I had been considering giving up dental nursing altogether. It is such a different environment; we all get on as a team and the patients are so pleasant. In my spare time I look after my husband, Dan, and our children, James and Sophie. I enjoy holidays, working out at the gym and going to concerts together.

Anna Bower

Apprentice Dental Nurse

I worked with Sue & Heather starting as an apprentice dental nurse in September 2016, but was frustrated with the slow progress, so was cheeky enough to ask if there were any other jobs, & Andy made room.

I believe I learnt more in the first week with Ombersley Family Dental Practice than I had learnt in the previous six months. Everyone is so encouraging and helpful in moving me forward to complete my ambition of qualifying this year.

I spend my spare time with my boy-friend Dan (another Dan !) and we enjoy going for long drives in the country.

Sophie Longdon

Registered Dental Nurse

For the past five years I have worked at a local NHS practice and although I enjoyed working there it was time to further my career. Although I have only recently started at Ombersley Family Dental Practice, I am settling in well thanks to the friendly team and the very pleasant patients.

I enjoy socialising and holidays and am planning to marry in May 2018.
